Dental care can go a long way toward a healthy body.  Oral health goes far beyond having sound white teeth and no cavities. According to the Surgeon General’s report on Oral Health, published in 2000, the mouth; (which includes gums, teeth and jawbone) is a mirror for general health and well being.

Cleaning between your teeth with floss or interdental cleaners (small brushes, picks or sticks) that remove plaque,  bacteria and food particles from between the teeth, which is the basis of proper dental care.  Daily brushing and flossing can often reverse early gum (gingivitis) disease.  Later stages of gum disease (periodontitis) can be treated, but not reversed.  If you use interdental cleaners, ask a dental hygienist how to use them properly, to avoid injuring your gums.

A significant association between obesity and prevalence of periodontal disease, especially among individuals aged 18 to 34 years, has recently been published in the May 2003 issue of the Journal of Periodontology.  Low dietary intake of calcium, vitamin C and improper dental care are cited as probable causes.

Do people flinch when you exhale, or tend to back away during close conversation?  Stinky breath is a notorious social impediment but chronic bad breath, or halitosis, may also signal an underlying physical illness.  Combat the woes of halitosis by finding its cause and choosing appropriate dental care.

Most dental professionals recommend that toothbrushes be replaced every three months, or more frequently if you are an extremely vigorous brusher.  Brushing carefully and gently is better and less harmful than brushing too hard.  Toothbrushes should also be replaced after you or family members have had a cold, flu, or other upper respiratory infection.  Proper dental care means you never share toothbrushes with other family members.

Dental Insurance Info

  • Dental Benefits are rapidly changing with many reductions in your coverage.
  • Insurance Companies do not inform dental offices of changes to your policy.
  • Benefit coverage is a contract between you, the insurance company and your employer, not the dentist.
  • Your insurance company may have changed due to a takeover, merger, buyout, etc.  If so, you may have a new policy number.  Be sure that you provide your dental office with any changes.
  • Dental benefits rarely cover 100% of your costs.
  • Coverage is being reduced drastically due to companies cutting their costs.  This means that necessary treatment may no longer be covered by your plan.
  • You are responsible for paying the dentist and your insurance company will reimburse you.
  • We ask that you provide the Front Desk Team your policy number and any other changes to your personal information, i.e., telephone number, address, etc.
